Going Green!

Save the Ozone layer by taking the Shuttle to the Winona Peach Festival!   This year we are very excited to announce that the HSR will be offering a FREE shuttle to the Festival from Eastgate Square!  This means that you can leave the car at home, take the bus to Eastgate Square where you will catch a FREE shuttle to the Winona Peach Festival.

The Winona Peach Festival is please to have been involved last year, in the City of Hamilton Waste Management Division's pilot for Green Cart organics collection.  We placed green carts with the blue recycling barrels and a garbage can.   This year we are pleased to continue in this quest to Go Green.  

Facts from the pilot:

• 120 litre green carts were placed throughout Winona Park.
• each organization had a cart behind their booth for organic materials coming directly out of their booth.
• 17.3% of the total waste was diverted
• 15.8% of waste diverted was recycling (blue barrel)
• 1.5% of waste diverted was acceptable organics
